Who is Countess Greta?
Countess Greta was born Margareta Schollmayer, who lived and worked in this beautiful southern part of Slovenia around 1900 and was the daughter of Henrik Schollmayer, manager of the Snežnik Castle estate, himself a keen castle chronicler and historian.
With a deep love for the castle, Margareta took the title of Countess and ran an exclusive school for Young Ladies in a nearby Manor house.
She took a huge interest in the history of Sneznik castle, editing her father’s notes
and also became friends with the famous Slovenian poet Oton Župančič.

Learn about local legends
By the shores of the mysterious Cerknica disappearing lake, in the shadow of the mighty snow covered Snežnik mountain and on the edge of the oldest forest in Europe, you will find a secret Renaissance castle, also called “Sneznik” and built as a luxury fairy tale hunting lodge.
Countess Greta will be waiting for you by the drawbridge to show you around.
You are warmly invited to join the Countess on her exclusive grand walking tour of the castle grounds.
You will smell rare snow roses and lime tree flowers, treat your eyes to the infinity of different shades of green and walk the lines of ancient mighty trees in the castle park.
I love domestic and local things, as long as they are in Green nature..
